Chelsea have agreed a deal for Atalanta’s Marco Palestra in a major transfer hijack. The 21-year-old Italian right wing-back signs until 2031 as Xabi Alonso’s first major signing.

The 21-year-old, who impressed during his loan spell at Cagliari with consistent performances, has opted for the Premier League challenge. Verbal agreements are in place across all parties for a package exceeding €55m, including a sell-on clause.
Palestra is expected to pen a five-year contract until June 2031, with an option for a further season. His salary will be around €5.5m per year including bonuses.
Initially eyeing a move to Inter Milan to continue his development in Serie A, the youngster was swayed by direct conversations with incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso. Paperwork is progressing rapidly, with medical examinations scheduled for next week.
