Atlético Madrid is set to report Barcelona to FIFA for allegedly negotiating with contracted striker Julián Álvarez.

The summer transfer window is already delivering fireworks when Argentine forward’s desire to leave has ignited a major transfer row ahead of the 2026 summer window.
The 26-year-old Argentine star, who arrived at Atlético Madrid from Manchester City for around €95 million and delivered an impressive 25 goals last season, has openly expressed his wish to move on. Despite his strong performances, his preferred destination has put the clubs on a collision course.
Atlético have made their stance crystal clear: they have no intention of selling their prized forward to arch-rivals Barcelona. Club CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín voiced deep disappointment over Álvarez’s timing and comments, accusing Barcelona of showing a lack of respect and attempting to undermine the club.
In response, Atlético plan to lodge a formal complaint with FIFA, claiming Barcelona made unauthorized contact with the player while he remains under contract until 2030. The club is determined to protect its interests during this protected period.
With tensions rising between the two Spanish giants, Álvarez’s future has quickly become one of the defining sagas of the 2026 transfer market.
