Ruben Amorim’s side has struggled immensely this season, currently sitting in 13th place and far from challenging for European spots. Additional reinforcements might have been key to boosting their campaign, particularly in attack, where United has had difficulties scoring. However, the club’s focus has been on strengthening the defense during this window.
The first player to join under Amorim’s management was Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu. United spent £29.2 million to bring the Danish left-back to Old Trafford, securing his services until 2030. Dorgu was not the only addition, as young defender Ayden Heaven also arrived from Arsenal. Heaven has signed a contract until 2029 and has already been included in United’s first-team squad.
After the move, Heaven expressed his excitement, saying: “It’s an honor to be part of Manchester United. I’m grateful for everyone who has supported me in achieving this milestone. My goal is to keep improving and become the best player I can be.”
While the club made a few key signings, there have also been several notable departures. Academy graduate Marcus Rashford, who had been sidelined from the first team by Amorim, secured a loan move to Aston Villa until the end of the season. Aston Villa has the option to make the transfer permanent and is currently covering a significant portion of Rashford’s wages. Another high-profile departure was Antony, who has moved on loan to Real Betis in Spain.
In addition to those high-profile exits, a number of younger players have also gone out on loan. Dan Gore has joined Wigan Athletic, Ethan Wheatley is now with Walsall, and Joe Hugill has headed to Carlisle. Other loan moves include Ethan Ennis to Doncaster Rovers, Ethan Williams to Cheltenham Town, Jack Kingdon to Rochdale, and Sam Mather and Louis Jackson, who have both joined Tranmere.
Despite limited action in the transfer market, United will hope these moves help them recover from their poor form and salvage the remainder of the season.
