Thomas Tuchel set to becomes England head coach

The Football Association (FA) has accelerated the process of finding a new coach for the England national team, especially after the Three Lions lost to Greece in the UEFA Nations League. After consideration, the FA finally decided to choose coach Thomas Tuchel.

The FA has not yet released official information, but according to SkySport, Coach Tuchel has agreed to sign an 18-month contract. He will start taking charge from January 1, 2025. Coach Lee Carsley will still be in charge of the England team for the remaining 2 matches in 2024 (against Greece and the Republic of Ireland in the Nations League).

Tuchel, 51, has not found a new job since leaving Bayern Munich in May. This coach used to lead Chelsea so he has some understanding of English football in general and the Premier League in particular.

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham and technical director John McDermott are strong supporters of Tuchel, having been in contact with him since last month. If he signs, Tuchel will become the third foreign manager in England’s history, after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

Yesterday (October 14), according to The Times, the FA contacted Pep Guardiola before the 2024-25 season. But so far, the Spanish coach has not given an answer. Many sources confirm that Pep is considering signing a new contract with Man City. Therefore, the FA is forced to turn to other targets, in which Tuchel is the priority choice.

FA technical director John McDermott wants to appoint a coach who has proven his ability with major titles. This is Thomas Tuchel’s strength because in his coaching career, he has won the national championship with PSG and Bayern Munich. At Chelsea, this strategist also impressed with the Champions League title.

According to SkySport, the FA will not have to pay any compensation to Bayern Munich when appointing Thomas Tuchel. This is one of the important details that put this 51-year-old strategist in the hot seat of the Three Lions. Official information may be announced by the FA within the next 24 hours.
