Liverpool have made it clear that Newcastle United will need to offer significantly more than the reported £30 million to secure defender Jarell Quansah, according Soccertv365.
Despite widespread reports suggesting Newcastle are targeting the England Under-21 international at that price point, Liverpool insist they will only consider parting with Quansah for an offer that would be “too good to turn down.” The Merseyside club views the young center-back as an integral part of their future plans.
Liverpool’s reluctance to sell stems partly from uncertainty surrounding the futures of senior defenders Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. The club is unwilling to weaken their defensive options during this period of potential transition in their backline.
Quansah, a product of Liverpool’s academy, recently committed his future to the club by signing a contract extension that runs until June 2029. Although he has made 22 appearances across all competitions this season, only 11 have been starts as he continues his development behind more established defenders.
Newcastle’s interest in Quansah dates back to last summer, but the Magpies may need to reconsider their defensive recruitment strategy given Liverpool’s firm stance. Their pursuit of defensive reinforcements comes as the club aims to strengthen its squad depth for potential European competition.
Football Insider has also reported that Newcastle’s qualification for the Champions League could be decisive in their separate pursuit of Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen. The Spain international has a £50 million release clause in his contract and has attracted interest from several elite clubs including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Chelsea.
For Newcastle, landing either defensive target will require substantial investment as they continue building a squad capable of competing at the highest levels both domestically and in Europe.
