Manchester City star Erling Haaland sparked controversy ahead of Norway’s first 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Moldavia with a dismissive response about their upcoming opponent.
When asked if he knew anything about the Moldavian team, Haaland replied bluntly, “No idea,” which angered Moldavian fans. Despite his ignorance of the opposition, Haaland emphasized the importance of Norway’s qualification campaign, saying, “I will do everything in my power to help ensure we qualify,” having missed the last few major tournaments with his national team.
Haaland also addressed concerns over potential sanctions facing Manchester City, making it clear he was focused on Norway and not worried about his club situation: “Obviously, I’m not concerned about that since I’ve signed a 9-and-a-half-year contract.”
The Norwegian striker concluded by urging his team to improve and avoid excuses, stating, “We need to deliver.”
